Tumble · last updated 5 October 2026

Tumble is a daily puzzle game for iPhone, made by one person, Amith Chandrappa (“we” on this page). Tumble talks to a server: that is how everyone gets the same levels each day, and how your clears count on the leaderboards. This page says, in plain language, what Tumble collects, why, who else is involved, and how to have it all deleted.

What we collect

There is no sign-up, email or password. The first time you open Tumble, our server makes an anonymous player for you: a random player ID and a secret token, which the app keeps in your iPhone’s Keychain. With that player, our servers keep:

Like any server, ours sees the IP address your phone connects from. It is used to keep the service running and to stop abuse, such as too many requests in a minute.

We do not collect your real name, email, contacts, photos or precise (GPS) location.

Why we use it

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile of you.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the law asks us to name the grounds for this. Running the game, your purchases and deleting your account are needed to provide the service you asked for (contract). Keeping the game fair and safe, stopping abuse and moderating names are our legitimate interests. Personalised ads, and Google’s use of your advertising identifier, rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (below).

Ads and tracking

Free players see ads from Google AdMob: ads you choose to watch for an extra try, and at most one other ad per session. Tumble Plus has no ads.

When you first open Tumble, you may be asked for consent through Google’s consent message and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow it, Google may use your device’s advertising identifier to show personalised ads, and to measure them. If you do not, the advertising identifier is not used, and the ads are not personalised with it. Either way, Google receives information from your device when it shows an ad, such as your IP address (from which it can work out an approximate location), your interactions with the ad, and diagnostic data about how its ad code is running, as described in how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s privacy policy, which applies to that data.

You can change your choices at any time: in Tumble, under Settings › Privacy, and in your iPhone’s Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

When you watch a rewarded ad, Google tells our server directly, with your anonymous player ID, so the extra try can be given. We receive no other data from Google.

Tumble itself has no analytics or crash-reporting service (Google’s ad code collects its own diagnostic data, as described above). If that changes, this page will say so before it happens.

Display names and moderation

Because names are public, every name you choose is checked before it is used: first against a word list, then by an AI moderation service, TypeSafe, which reads only the name and says whether it is allowed. The name is sent to that service for the check, and we keep its verdict. Other players can report a name they find offensive; a name reported by several players is removed.

Purchases

Tumble Plus and the cosmetic items are bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple sends the app a signed record of the purchase (the product, the transaction ID and dates), and the app passes it to our server, which checks Apple’s signature and unlocks what you bought. Apple handles the payment: we never see your card details, your name or your Apple ID.

Game Center

Linking Game Center is optional. If you do, Tumble sends your Game Center player ID to our server, together with Apple’s proof that it is yours. It is used only to restore your Tumble player and progress on a new phone. Apple’s own Game Center features, such as achievements, are covered by Apple’s privacy policy.

Notifications and sharing

If you allow them, the daily reminder is scheduled by the app on your iPhone; we have no push server. If you tap Share, your iPhone’s share sheet opens with some text about your run, and nothing is sent until you choose where to send it. A share can earn an extra try, so the app tells our server that you shared, but not where.

Who handles it, and where

We use a few providers, each only for its own part:

If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, this means your data is processed outside those regions. Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards it provides for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

Your data is kept on our servers for as long as your player exists. Nightly backups are kept for 14 days and then overwritten.

You can delete your player at any time, in Tumble under Settings › Account › Delete account. That removes your player and everything linked to it from our servers straight away, including your name, runs, friends, record and Game Center link; it then drops out of the backups within 14 days. Anything already public about you, such as your name on a past leaderboard, disappears with it. An active Tumble Plus subscription is not cancelled by deleting your account: cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings › your name › Subscriptions.

You can also email us to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. Include your display name, or your friend code, so we can find your player.

Deleting the app removes what Tumble keeps on your phone, but not your player on our servers; use Delete account or email us for that.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, give you a copy of it, correct it or delete it, and you can delete it yourself with Delete account. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you can also object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw a consent you gave (in Tumble under Settings › Privacy, or in your iPhone’s tracking settings), and complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in a US state with a privacy law, you can also opt out of your data being used for targeted ads: turn off tracking for Tumble in your iPhone’s settings, or use Settings › Privacy in Tumble where it is offered.

To ask, email us (below). We reply within one month, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Children

Tumble is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used Tumble, email us and we will delete that player.
