DigDig · a map game for your own city, for iPhone and Android
Something not working, or a question about a square? The usual questions are answered below. In the app, the ? on any square and Me › How to play explain the rules too.
Digs
How do digs work? Tap a square on the map and dig it. The player with the most digs on a square owns it, and on a tie, whoever reached that count last wins. You can dig any square of land anywhere in the world, from wherever you are, as many at a time as you have digs for.
When do I get free digs? You get one free dig every day, when the game day starts at 00:00 UTC (5:30 am in India), the same moment for everyone. You can bank up to three; once you have three, spend one before another arrives. Free digs are always used first.
Where else do digs come from? Bonus digs come from keeping a streak (one on every 7th day), holding a Golden Square when the day ends (two), and inviting friends (one for them when they join with your code, and one for you when they make their first dig). Bonus digs never expire.
Can I buy digs? Yes, in packs, up to five digs a day. Tap your dig count on the map, or Get digs on a square, to open the shop. The shop shows the price from your App Store or Google Play, in your currency. Bought digs never expire.
Squares
Someone took my square. Your digs on a square never reset when you lose it, and a tie goes to whoever dug last, so you only need enough digs to match the new owner's count. Often that is a single dig. The square's sheet shows how many. DigDig warns you when a rival gets within one dig, unless they close the gap all at once: that is a sneak attack.
What is the home square? Pick one square as your home (Set as home, on a square you have dug). Your digs there count double. You can move it once every 30 days.
What is the Golden Square? Every day, Golden Squares appear near the people playing: an area gets one a day once it has 5 active players, and two once it has 50. Whoever holds one when the day ends gets two bonus digs and a crown for a day. Digs on a golden square are ordinary digs and stay after the day ends.
Why can't I dig a square? Water can never be dug, and digging is sometimes paused in a place. The square's sheet says which.
Streaks, friends and dares
How do streaks work? Dig at least once each game day (they start at 00:00 UTC) to keep your streak. Every 7th day earns a bonus dig. If you have not dug by the evening, your time, DigDig reminds you, if streak reminders are on.
How do I add a friend? Swap codes: your code is on the Me tab. You can also share a friend link, or tap a name on a board.
How do dares work? On a square you own, tap Dare a friend. They have 48 hours to take it. You can send a few dares a day.
Language
How do I change the language? Me › App › Language. DigDig is in English, Español, Deutsch, 日本語, Português, Français, 한국어 and 简体中文, and follows your phone's language unless you pick one. Place and player names stay as they are, and things you share stay in English. Days and countdowns run to 00:00 UTC for everyone, in every language.
Your account
Do I need an account? You can look around the map without one. To dig, sign in with Apple or Google. Your name on the map is one you choose in DigDig, not the one on your Apple or Google account.
Is DigDig on iPad? No. DigDig is for iPhone and Android phones.
Can I play on two phones? Yes. Sign in with the same Apple or Google account on both; your squares, digs and streak follow you.
How do I change my name, photo or colour? Me › Account › Edit name, photo and colour. Names that break the rules can be hidden, and you can report a player who breaks them.
How do I turn notifications off? Each kind has its own switch on the Me tab.
How do I delete my account? Me › Account › Delete account. Your name and photo are removed and you are signed out everywhere. Your digs stay on the map as history, under a placeholder name. This cannot be undone. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account.
