Shadow Fit · last updated 6 October 2026
Shadow Fit is a daily shadow puzzle for iPhone, made by one person, Amith Chandrappa (“we” on this page). Most of the game lives on your phone: every level is inside the app, and your progress is kept there. Shadow Fit also talks to our own server, for the daily leaderboard and to learn how the game is played. This page says, in plain language, what Shadow Fit collects, why, who else is involved, and how to have it deleted.
What stays on your phone
Your campaign progress, your Level of the Day results, your streak and streak freezes, your hints, the ghosts in your haunted gallery, your purchases and your settings (sound, language, reminder time and so on) are kept in the app on your iPhone. They are not sent to our server as such. Deleting the app deletes them.
What our server keeps
There is no sign-up, email or password. When Shadow Fit first reaches our server, it makes an anonymous player for you: a random secret token, which the app keeps on your phone (the server stores only a scrambled form of it, called a hash), and a player number. With that player, our server keeps:
- Your display name. The server makes up a ghostly one for you, such as “Drifting Raven 60”. You can change it on the leaderboard.
- Your country. It starts as the region set in your iPhone’s settings (not your location), and you can change it. It is used for the country leaderboards and to check names (below).
- That you play on iPhone, and when the player was made.
- Your Level of the Day solves: the day, the level, your time, the number of turns and the number of hints. Only the Level of the Day is sent, not campaign levels. A solve made offline is kept on your phone and sent later.
- Game events, described below.
Your display name, your country’s flag, and your time, turns and hints are public: other players see them on that day’s leaderboard. The country board shows how many players from each country solved the day’s level, not who.
Like any server, ours sees the IP address your phone connects from. It is used to send the reply and to limit abuse, such as too many name checks in a minute. It is not stored with your player.
When the app fetches the day’s schedule, its settings or new level files, it does not send your player or anything about you.
We do not collect your real name, email, contacts, photos or precise (GPS) location.
Game events
To learn which levels are too hard and how the game is played, the app records a few events and sends them to our own server, in batches, with your anonymous player. There is no third-party analytics service in Shadow Fit. The events are: a level started or solved (the level, its tier, the time, turns and hints), a hint used and which kind, a long stretch with no progress on a level, a share card or reveal clip shared, a reveal clip made, a streak broken (its length), a purchase (which product), a rewarded ad watched (what for), a locked level opened early, and a Level of the Day played. Each has the time it happened. Events wait on your phone until they can be sent.
Why we use it
- To run the daily leaderboard: world, your country, and countries by ghosts freed.
- To make the game better: to see which levels are too hard or too easy, where players get stuck, and which hints help.
- To keep Shadow Fit fair and safe: to refuse impossible solves and stop offensive names.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to build an advertising profile of you.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the law asks us to name the grounds for this. Running the leaderboard you take part in is needed to provide the service you asked for (contract). Improving the game from its events, keeping it fair and moderating names are our legitimate interests. Personalised ads, and Google’s use of your advertising identifier, rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (below).
Display names and moderation
Because names are public, every name you choose is checked before it is used: first against a word list on our server, then by an AI moderation service, TypeSafe, whose Jev model reads the name and says whether it is allowed. Only the name is sent to TypeSafe for the check, not your player or your country. We keep its verdict for that name, so the same name is not sent twice. A name that is not allowed is not saved.
Ads and tracking
Shadow Fit shows ads from Google AdMob: ads between some campaign levels (never in the middle of a level or on the Level of the Day), and ads you choose to watch for an extra hint, a streak freeze or to open a locked level early. Remove ads takes away the ads between levels; the ads you choose to watch are still there if you want them.
Before any ad, you may be asked for consent through Google’s consent message and Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow it, Google may use your device’s advertising identifier to show personalised ads, and to measure them. If you do not, the advertising identifier is not used, and the ads are not personalised with it. Either way, Google receives information from your device when it shows an ad, such as your IP address (from which it can work out an approximate location), your interactions with the ad, and diagnostic data about how its ad code is running, as described in how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s privacy policy, which applies to that data.
You can change your choices at any time: in Shadow Fit under Settings › Privacy choices (shown where consent applies), and in your iPhone’s Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
The rewards for ads you watch are given by the app on your phone. Google does not send us anything about you.
Purchases
Shadow Fit Plus (a monthly or yearly subscription), Remove ads and hint bundles are bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment, and the app checks Apple’s signed record of the purchase on your phone and gives you what you bought. We never see your card details, your name or your Apple ID. A record that a product was bought goes to our server as a game event (above). Whether your Plus subscription is active is read from Apple on your phone each time you open the app; renewals and cancellations are handled by Apple, in your Apple Account’s subscription settings.
Notifications
If you allow them, the daily reminder (at the time you choose) and the evening reminder when your streak is at risk are scheduled by the app on your iPhone. We have no push server and send no notifications.
Sharing and reveal clips
If you tap Share, your iPhone’s share sheet opens with your share card: the day or level, your time, turns, hints and streak, never the answer. For a reveal clip, the app records its own screen for a few seconds, using Apple’s screen recording, without the microphone; iOS asks you first. The clip is kept on your phone. Nothing is sent until you choose where to send it.
Who handles it, and where
We use a few providers, each only for its own part:
- E2E Networks runs our server and its backups, in India. All the data listed under “What our server keeps” is stored there.
- Google (AdMob) shows the ads and handles ad consent, as described above.
- Apple handles purchases, screen recording and the App Store.
- TypeSafe checks display names, and receives only the name.
If you live in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, this means your data is processed outside those regions. Where the law requires it, we rely on the safeguards it provides for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
Your player, its solves and its events are kept on our server for as long as Shadow Fit runs, unless you ask us to delete them. Nightly backups are kept for 14 days and then overwritten.
You can delete your player at any time, in Shadow Fit under Settings › Delete account and data. That removes your player with its name, solves and events from our server straight away (your name leaves every leaderboard); it then drops out of the backups within 14 days. Everything Shadow Fit keeps on your phone is wiped too, and the game starts again from the beginning. Purchases belong to your Apple Account and are not affected, and deleting does not cancel a Shadow Fit Plus subscription. You can also email us (below) with your display name and country to ask for deletion.
Deleting the app removes everything Shadow Fit keeps on your phone, including the token that links you to your player. Your player on our server stays until you delete it or ask us to; if you install the app again, you get a new player.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, give you a copy of it, correct it or delete it. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you can also object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw a consent you gave (in Shadow Fit under Settings › Privacy choices, or in your iPhone’s tracking settings), and complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in a US state with a privacy law, you can also opt out of your data being used for targeted ads: turn off tracking for Shadow Fit in your iPhone’s settings, or use Settings › Privacy choices in Shadow Fit where it is offered.
To ask, email us (below). We reply within one month, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Children
Shadow Fit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has used Shadow Fit, email us and we will delete that player.
