Cocktailor · last updated 22 October 2026

Cocktailor is a cocktail and mocktail app for iPhone and iPad, made by one person, Amith Chandrappa (“we” on this page). The short version: there is no account, we run no server for it, and what you do in the app stays on your device. The free version shows ads from Google, and Cocktailor Pro is sold through Apple with the help of a service called RevenueCat. This page says what each of those involves.

What stays on your device

All 1,596 recipes and their photos are inside the app. Everything you add is kept in a small database in the app on your iPhone or iPad: the bottles you have ticked in My Bar, your saved drinks and collections, the drinks you have made with your ratings, notes and number of glasses, your shopping list, your quiz scores, the tastes you picked when you started, and your settings (language, ml or oz, zero-proof mode, haptics, the look of Discover and so on). The app also notes when you first opened it and how many drinks you have made, so it knows when ads may start (below).

None of this is sent to us: we have no server for Cocktailor and no analytics. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

Motion

To pour a drink when you shake the phone, and to tilt the liquid in the glass as you tilt the phone, the app reads the phone’s motion sensors (accelerometer and gyroscope). This is done on the device while the screen is showing, and the readings are neither kept nor sent anywhere.

Hands-free mixing (microphone and speech recognition)

Hands-free mixing is part of Cocktailor Pro, and can also be tried once by watching an ad. When you turn it on while mixing, the app reads each step aloud with your device’s built-in voice, and listens for a few words (“next”, “back”, “start”, “stop”, “again”) so you can move through the recipe without touching the screen.

The first time, iOS asks your permission to use the microphone and speech recognition. The app listens only while hands-free is on, on the mixing screen, and stops when you leave it. The words are recognised by Apple’s speech recognition, which may send the audio to Apple to be processed, as described in Apple’s privacy policy; the app uses only the recognised words to move between steps. It does not record or keep the audio, and nothing is sent to us. You can turn the permissions off at any time in your device’s Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and Speech Recognition; the rest of the app works the same without them.

Advertising

The free version of Cocktailor shows ads from Google AdMob, a service of Google. There are two kinds: an occasional full-page ad at a natural pause, such as after a finished drink or on leaving a drink’s page, and a short ad you can choose to watch to try a Pro feature once. There are no ads while you mix, during onboarding, in Settings or on the Pro screen, and none at all in the first two days or before you have made a few drinks. With Cocktailor Pro there are no ads, and the ad software is not started.

To show an ad, measure it and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads software in the app sends Google information about your device and the ad: your IP address (from which Google can tell your rough location), the device model and operating system, the app and its version, and how you interact with the ad. If you allow tracking, it may also use your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA). Google uses this as described in its privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and in how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services. We do not receive this information and cannot see it.

You choose whether ads may be personalised. Nothing is asked on first launch: only when ads are about to start does the app ask, in this order:

Saying no does not change anything else in the app. Ads may still be shown, only not personalised.

Purchases and Cocktailor Pro

Cocktailor Pro is bought through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card details, your name or your Apple Account.

To know whether your Pro is active (renewals, cancellations, refunds and restoring on a new device), the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. When the app opens, RevenueCat’s software in the app makes a random, anonymous ID for your copy of the app and, with it, sends RevenueCat your App Store purchase records for Cocktailor and basic technical details such as the app version, the iOS version, your App Store country and language, and your IP address. RevenueCat uses this to tell the app whether Pro is on, and keeps it as described in its privacy policy (revenuecat.com/privacy). It does not receive your name, email or anything you do in the app. We can see those anonymous purchase records in RevenueCat’s dashboard, but they do not say who you are.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel them at any time in your App Store settings.

Sharing

If you tap Share, for your shopping list, a picture of your home bar or a quiz score, your device’s share sheet opens. Nothing is sent until you choose where to send it.

Links

A few screens link out, such as a bottle maker’s website or a photo’s page on Wikimedia Commons. Those open in your browser, under that site’s own privacy policy.

Who handles it

We do not sell any data, and we hold none about you ourselves.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask about data held about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Everything Cocktailor keeps about you is on your device, and deleting the app removes it. For your anonymous purchase records at RevenueCat, email us (below) from the device, or with the date of a purchase, and we will ask RevenueCat to delete them. For data Google holds through its ads, Google’s privacy policy explains your choices. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you can also withdraw a consent you gave and complain to your local data protection authority.

Age

Cocktailor is a drinks app for adults of legal drinking age where they live, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, child or adult. Please drink responsibly.
